The farmers group is identified by Victoria Seeds Ltd or Send a Cow Uganda.
We try to personally meet the farmers, but with the farmers groups growing all the time, this is not always possible.
We hear about their motivation, enthusiasm and commitment to creating a better life for themselves and their children. The farmers share their challenges and needs with us so we know we are responding directly to them. The farmers must show that they are honest, trustworthy and hard-working.
A handshake seals the agreement. Written contracts are signed by the Group Committee on behalf of the farmers.
The farmers inform Seeds for Development of the amount required by the group.
The money is transferred to the farmers group bank account.
Collectively, the farmers purchase the seeds and other inputs which are distributed to the individual farmers.
After the harvest, the farmers sell their crop – either as seed to Victoria Seed or at the local market.
Collectively, the money is repaid via Victoria Seeds Ltd or Send a Cow Uganda.
The money is then transferred back to the farmers group as "rolling credit" or used to support other farmers.
We meet with the farmers to hear their challenges first-hand.
