We are just back from an amazing trip to Uganda. We visited the farmers who are now growing g-nuts (peanuts to you and me) and pineapples. It was fabulous to see fields upon fields of g-nuts and pineapples growing next to the beans. The last harvest was a good one and evidence of this was plain to see with new homes and businesses sprouting up wherever you looked.
The pineapples will take 18 months to produce fruit so the farmers are really looking to and investing in the future.
Hundreds of farmers are now signed up to grow coffee and Seeds for Development transferred nearly £3,000 to support them with seeds. These should be ready to plant out in March and then a lot of work and patience will be needed to wait for the 3 years it takes for the beans to be ready to harvest.

"Since I left the camp my life has changed so much. I can now feed my family 3 meals per day but in the camp we could only eat once often waiting days for aid food. I could make no choices of my own. Now I have freedom. I can choose and plan my life and how my family eat, now that I know I have an income. In the last month I have even been able to buy a bed for my children to share—now they don't have to sleep on the mud floor"
