Advancing seeds to farmers

The problem

20 years of war and living in camps for displaced persons in northern Uganda destroyed the lives hundreds of thousands of people leaving them with nothing - no home, no income, no possessions or hope.

What we are doing about it

Advancing seeds to farmers so they can farm on a commercial scale rather than just to feed their families.

Once they have income from the crops they are able to pay back the value of the seeds received and create a buffer fund to support the wider community.

The outcome

Thousands of lives have been transformed by beans, ground-nuts, maize and more.  The farmers are now able to send their children to school, pay medical bills and even start up new businesses and shops.

As well as seasonal crops we have expanded to include pineapples which take 18 months to grow and now have a really exciting coffee project.
