Oyella Beyoncy

My life

My name is Oyella Beyoncy, a pupil of Opit Modern Primary School aged fourteen. Born to a poor motherly woman in South Sudan in times of war. But for the love and caring heart they had for me, they ran to Uganda so that me and them too can be safe from war.

I am now in Gulu city in a small place called Laliya. Living with my father and step-mother whom I really loved her when she was brought into our family as my dearly mother. And my biological mother left me to my father. She has not been with me for five years now.

This happened due to misunderstandings between her and my father. My father is a farmer who grows crops and usually sells them after harvesting so that he gets money to pay my school fees. In this home, I feel so sad and lonely sometimes because of the thoughts I have about this family, especially when I am just from the church because in my prayers, I usually ask God to give me wisdom so that I can achieve my goal of becoming an engineer because I believe in my heart that I can change my family’s standard of living through this job.

I am so grateful to thank God because he is protecting my father who pays my school fees although I am sometimes sent home by the school bursar to go and get money for school fees but my father struggles so hard to look for money to pay my school fees.

Thanks be to God for giving me a loving and caring father. Amen.
