Veronica

My life story

My name is Veronica. A pupil from Opit Modern Primary School. I am 14 years old. Am in primary seven. I came from Amuru District in Uganda.

I stay with my mother, sister, brother and my grandma. First of all, I would like to thank God for the gifts He has given me. I am proud of myself because God gave me kind, honest and humble granny. She is loved by everyone in our village because of her behaviour. She likes children so much. Every evening, she calls us and set a fire place and tells us stories of long ago. She always visit the sick in the hospital, provide needs to the needy.

One day, we were sent to collect firewood from a nearby forest. We were told not to take more than two hours there. While we were collecting the firewood, I heard grass cracking the ground. As soon as I stood up, I saw a tall man with his dogs. I shouted loudly because my sister and brother were far away from me. I got scared and started shivering. When we reached home, I was calm by my granny. Whenever I eat my mother’s food I feel happy.

After a week, I was sent back to school. I was told to study hard so that I can gain more opportunities to help my mother and granny. Because they did not study.

Now that I had got chance to study, I would study hard and become an archaeologist. I would discover different places, more about other tribes like the Khoisans, Hottentots etc. I would like to be like Dr. Louis Leakey who discovered the oldest man’s skull at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania. If I become an archaeologist, I would travel at Olduvai Gorge to see and confirm whether the skull was a man’s skull. I would like to research for the strongest medicine of HIV in Uganda.

Therefore, I advice my fellow children to study hard like how I would do, because studying is the key to success.
